Bean There, Drunk That

December 27th, 2009

Unsweetened soy milk is a healthier alternative than milk or creamer for your coffee.

And instead of sugar (white or brown) or worse still, artificial sweetener, Manuka honey is the way to go.

The right daily dose/amount of caffeine from coffee actually does your body good instead of harms.

I really don’t know about the truth in coffee keeping people awake because I like to have coffee after dinner and I still go to bed as usual. Take it in moderation. I do an average of 2 cups a day. Sometimes 3.

I’m still going to enjoy my cuppas except now the healthier way.

Sushi, Bento, and Blenz

September 1st, 2009

Went downtown yesterday… it was a hot day and I fell asleep in the car while reading, hehe :p

Anyways, went for a meeting at Blenz and I had this iced moccha. I also ordered a shaken peach iced tea for Sze Zin and guess what… I was kept waiting over the counter long enough to drive me nuts. I can’t stand it when people make me wait like stupid. How was it like stupid? Well, this waiter took my order, I paid, and he passed my order on to his fellow waitress who was then making 3 ice blended’s for another lady. She was swaying her way back and forth ever so slowly and it took her forever to get the 3 cups of order done. Finally she went to my order. Again, moving ever so slowly to just get that 1 iced tea done. Then she put the iced tea on the counter for me. She went back and moved from left to right, right to left, and I was wondering what the heck she was up to.

There were 2 other customers AFTER me, and they both had walked away with their cuppas. I was still standing there watching this not-so-attractive ballet-wannabe movements. The waiter was done with all the orders and it looked to me like both of them were now relaxing while I was still standing there!! I started to get pissed.

“Hey guys, so is this going to take much longer, you think?” I asked both of them.

The waitress looked confused with my comments, and before they opened their mouth, I said “I’ve been waiting here forever, and your 2 other customers who came AFTER I did have also walked away with their orders.”.

The waiter: “Erm… what are you waiting for?” (in very low, polite voice)

Me: (in high-pitch angry voice and face) “MY ORDER!?! What else am I waiting for???”

The waitress then tried to speak in defense, saying that they only had one machine that makes moccha, and that she was working on the other order. I said, “I don’t care about that. It takes too unreasonably long for me to just get my cup of moccha. And 2 other customers have walked away. I have a meeting in progress, you know?”

The waiter handed me a “Friends of Blenz” card rightaway without saying much. It’s basically a card that they give out to customers who are not satisfied so that they get a free item the next time they order. He then went on to apologize, and took over the moccha work by himself.

And guess what, it didn’t even take 1 minute to make my drink when I stand in their face like that. But when I was being nice, they took forever.

Anyways… enough of the emotions.

We had sushi and bento for dinner downtown after the meeting before heading home.

My chicken teriyaki bento that came with salad, 2 pieces of gyoza, and 4 pieces of tempura including 2 ebi tempura. Yum~ Of course I couldn’t finish this all by myself.

Sunday Brunch at IHOP

June 30th, 2009

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

We went to IHOP (Interntaional House Of Pancakes) in Surrey for brunch around noon. IHOP is one of my favorite places for Sunday brunch for whatever reason.

As always, the restaurant was packed with people and we had to line up for about 10 or 15 minutes before we got a table.

We ordered a brekkie plate with strawberry pancakes, and shrimp popcorns with fries and toast.

Orange and green, colors of spring

April 19th, 2009

April 18th, 2009

Beautiful Saturday. It was sunny as expected. Temperature was 12 on the high and 6 on the low. It’s around 7 degrees right now in the evening.

Went to downtown around close to noon. Had brunch at Tim Hortons. We had… ham & cheese sandwich with chicken & veggies soup and coffee, and… BLT sandwich with hearty veggies soup and orange juice. I love my chicken and veggies soup. The sandwich was good but half the portion would’ve been ideal for me.

I stayed back at Tim Hortons for an hour or so with my coffee and continued to read World On Fire. Walked around downtown afterwards as usual. Went to check out the gift shop at the Art Gallery. Took some pictures of spring colors around the blocks. Tulips of all colors were everywhere in town. Back in KL, it was way too hot and humid for tulips; my Valentine’s bouquet of tulips started to die just a day after they were out of the shop.

Check out the colors of spring in Van downtown. Orange and green made the theme of the day.

We then went looking for a supposedly superb curry place along Denman St. Not sure which one it was, we ended up trying out the Banana Leaf Malaysian restaurant on Denman.

Had Nasi Goreng and Chicken Curry. Next time I must try the “Abundance of Seafood in Gulai”. That would be fabulous, just because of the freshness of seafood here (something which was kinda scarce in KL). I was a little full still from brunch today so we’ll save the good deal for next time ;)

We then walked around for quite a bit, mostly along Robson. It was a great day for walking, and so we did. A lot.

Granville Island

March 30th, 2009

March 28th, 2009

Went to Granville Island after VanDusen. I LOVE this place!!! It’s like… everything is available here. There is so much diversity, and there is more than what you can browse and see in one visit.

First off, went to the gift shops. Picked up several post cards from one of the shops.

Went around the market, can’t resist to take these pictures of the flowers on sale. Went to have lunch at the food court, then picked up a cup of Papua New Guinea coffee before heading back. Everything was so good!

Check out more photos here…
