Two books that I’m reading at the moment…

The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch

- I admire this man for devoting the last moments of his life to such great and meaningful legacy. Check out his website and a video of The Last Lecture.

Julia Child – My Life in France

- Simply entertaining and a page turner

Books Shopping

May 8th, 2010

Got 2 books from Borders yesterday. Used my $25-off coupon and still paid $42 for these 2 books. I feel so ripped off living here sometimes. It would’ve costed me half of what I paid for even with the $25 coupon to get those books from Amazon, with the free shipping for US/Canada. Dammit. But guess will just deal with it for the time being.

I also was really tempted to get those nice cookbooks in fancy packagings due to Mum’s day. I just wish I were a little bit more into cooking cos as much as I like the idea of buying those books, I know they will end up sitting there… and once I realise how many things I have to get ready to follow these recipes I’d just abandon it, hahaha.

Another Week Flew By

December 11th, 2009

This week went by just like most working weeks. Work became a tad busier as I was trying to march up to next week’s deadline, which is quite a high profile one both for the company and for me professionally (as it’s my very first real project here). Fingers (and toes) crossed.

Bought my all-time favorite perfume, Nina by Nina Ricci, and L’Air du Temps (also by Nina Ricci) today, yippee! It was a deal I couldn’t pass. First of all, Nina very rarely comes in EDP bottle of 80 ml. If I were lucky I would get a 30 ml EDP, so an 80 ml EDP bottle at $40 off is a no-brainer! The 100 ml EDT bottle is $80 off and it’s a classic which is not for sale everywhere anymore now. I was contemplating getting the new Ricci but I wasn’t sure. The smell is very similar to Love in Paris, but I may still end up getting it since Nina Ricci perfumes are my all time favorites!

Went to the company’s rooftop terrace Christmas party last Friday and stayed till quarter to 1 AM… pretty much when it ended. It was a good social night of drinks, music and dance. The theme was 80′s so I had my 80′s little party dress, and it was amusing seeing people dressed up. But it was more amusing to see how people confused it to be a “costume party”. I laughed to myself when I saw people dressing up as Super Mario Bros, Bob The Builder, etc. Michael Jackson I can understand but Mario Bros for an 80′s theme? Hahaha…

Went to another rooftop Christmas party on Wednesday night. Met a number of interesting people, and basically just one of those nights of drinks and chats (pretty much with people I barely knew).

Finished reading a book this week. Starting another one tomorrow. Hmmm… what else? I’m trying to set up my business email account on my iPhone with no success (Urghh). Will get to it again in the morning.

I’m off to enjoy my weekend peeps, cheers!

Rainy Monday

August 10th, 2009

Hola Monday!

Woke up at 7-ish in the morning and it was raining! YES!

This summer it went from “still rather cool” –> “warm” –> “hot” –> “freakin’ hot” –> “less hot” for 2 days –> “cool” –> “rainy and rather cold”.

We’re at “rainy and rather cold” today. Well not THAT cold. It’s nicely 12 degrees. Semi bright/overcast. My ideal kind of temperature and weather.

I started reading Where Are The Customers’ Yachts last night. I’m about one-third of my way into the book. Hope to finish it soon so that I can move on to A Tale of Two Cities.

Yachts

I also have my eye on False Economy (really really want to read this soon), The Ascent of Money, and Capitalism and Freedom.

Anyhoo… on another note, I’m keepin’ positive and confident on my next undertaking. Found out yesterday that another one bites the dust but oh well. There are several more on the plate and I’m pursuing those. Talked to some people today who happen to be very nice. At least there are leads now! Cancelled my flight booking on the 22nd of this month after bouncing some ideas with mom on the weekend. Called Cathay Pacific today and they said I can change the dates on my airfares as many times as I want, no charges. Oh and it is also claimed that Canada’s economy is slowly pulling itself out from the recession. We shall see what emerge from here.

Chillaxing Sunday: Lunch, Books, etc.

August 10th, 2009

Sunday, August 9th 2009.

Nice and sunny yet not hot.

Went for lunch around 1PM at iHOP (again)! Yeah, it’s one of our fave Sunday brunch/lunch places and we weren’t particularly feeling like driving a long way to eat today.

It was busy as usual but we only had to wait for about 5 mins before we got the table.

I knew what I wanted even before I got to the restaurant, haha. The brekky regular set — 2 sunny-side-ups, hash browns, a bacon and a sausage link, and one cinnamon French toast with cream cheese filling, strawberries topping, whipped cream and strawberry syrup — with coffee. Their coffee is bottomless so it is free refill. I had 2 cuppas. I pointed to the appetizer sampler and SzeZin ordered that — deep fried mozzarella sticks, chicken strips, and onion rings served with honey mustard and plum sauce.

My regular, 2 cups of black coffee to start the day (at 1PM, LOL) …

After lunch, SzeZin came up with this idea of going to Chapters. I loved the idea.

We browsed for some books — world history, political science and finance/business books (our kinds of books), and made a list of what to buy (when we get home, from Amazon instead of from Chapters, hahaha). Yeah, you can always get better deals of Amazon as Chapters here sell their books at full published price.

I picked up 3 classics from Chapters however, that were on sale at $10 for 3 so that was nice.

Books 01

I’ve always wanted to read A Tale Of Two Cities by Charles Dickens.

Right now I’m on to reading Where Are The Customers’ Yachts (or A Good Hard Look at Wall Street), and afterwards I’m going to read Charles Dickens’.
